PayPal’s friendly yellow button has been around since the concept of shopping online was in its infancy. Today, with over 325 million users across the globe, PayPal has disrupted the world of traditional financial institutions by delivering its customers unfettered access to their funds and continually innovating modern day money. In 2019, PayPal asked us to redesign one of their few physical products—their suite of credit, debit, and pre-paid cards.
Each card in the portfolio serves a different audience and use case. With this in mind, we used a spectrum of brilliant and bold colors to give each card a distinct identity and personality. The enlarged Mastercard, Visa and PayPal logos were a modern and playful design choice in an otherwise traditional and pragmatic category. The bold color system and simple, straightforward language carried through to the packaging, creating an experience based in joy and excitement instead of 9 point legal copy.
